Agora Forum 2018 – The Future of Democracy

December 1-3, 2018

Alion Hotel, Ayia Napa

In collaboration with the Athens Development and Governance Institute -INERPOST

During the two days of the symposium, the group of participants took part in a series of moderated round-table discussions. Discussions dealt with the most important challenges faced by modern democracies today due to globalization, rising inequalities, rapid technological change and new ways of communication, in their effort to secure social cohesion, jobs and decent living standards for their citizens.

One of the sessions was dedicated to the first public presentation of the Report of the Independent Commission for Sustainable Equality (ICSE), an initiative of the Socialists & Democrats political group of the European Parliament, co-chaired by former Prime Minister of Denmark, Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, and Prof. Louka T. Katseli. The report provides an alternative road-map for European policy making to promote sustainable well-being for all.

The summary of the symposium proceedings as well as the Report of the ICSE, were presented on 4 December at the European University Cyprus. The event culminated in a lecture by Mariliza Xenogiannakopoulou, then Minister of Administrative Reconstruction of the Hellenic Republic.
