Australia – A national recall is underway of a particular brand of soy milk which has so far made 10 people in New South Wales sick.
The West Australian Health Department is urging people not to consume ‘Bonsoy’ soy milk because it has been found to contain very high levels of iodine.
The department’s Chief Health Officer Tarun Weeramanthri says a high intake of iodine can cause thyroid problems leading to either weight loss or gain and fatigue.
Dr Weeramanthri says people should stop consuming the product immediately and see a doctor if they feel unwell.
“If you are soy milk drinkers or have soy milk in your household please before Christmas go check your pantry and if there is soy milk in it dispose of it,” he said.
