Since the fall of the iron curtain, Russia has had more than it’s own share of problems. Ten years ago Vladimir Putin, then Russia’s president cemented his hold on Russia’s politics by showing he could bring the Caucuses to heel. The mechanism was force. After a second war with Chechnya’s separatists, he installed a strong man, Eamzan Kadyrov as president and granted him the power to crush internal opposition. After a year of rising violence in the region, it was becoming obvious that Moscow was loosing control. On the other hand, NATO countries sharing the Russian borders were and are arming themselves to the maximum.
What should the Russians do? Is Dimitry Medmedev the right person to lead Russia out of the doldrums? How does the country get back on track?.

To promote economic development of the country is undrstandable. We are a bit sceptic about an antagonistic military race. The funds needed are astronomical. They should be other ways to achieve security. The population is starving and suffering.

I agree with with the president's statements and i believe that this is the way to go.
Unless Russia modernises and develop both its economy and defence, a balance between the superpowers will never be achieved and the world will suffer the consiquances.
